"Don't Look Back" is a song composed by Kotomi (Lauren Culjak) and Ryan Elder[3] in the episode "Star Mort Rickturn of the Jerri."

Composition and lyrical interpretation[]

"Don't Look Back" has a length of three minutes and twenty-seven seconds. The song and title references a recurring theme explored on the show, which is accepting that previous traumatic or negative experiences have happened, and more importantly, moving on from them.

Summer previously explained this notion in the episode "Rickmancing the Stone", after recounting her first kill in a post-apocalyptic universe:

"He had a chance to escape, but he looked back, which is something we shouldn't do...

Dad, I wanted to give you this as a reminder, not to look back."

"Don't Look Back" plays in the final moments of "Star Mort Rickturn of the Jerri", when Rick reviews his mindblower, and accepts the wrongs he has inflicted on his family, and his intentions to do better as a friend.

Lyrics[]

Note that first half of the song was used in the episode. The second verse and on was released online through streaming and online stores.

I know you tried
I know you tried your best
And now it's time to put this all to rest
Minutes pass and those days seem long ago (Oh oh)
A distant voice
One that I used to know
There’s a voice  and  it's  trying to drag  me down, down
If you go then I’m going with you now

Don't look back
Nothing left to see
Just leave the shadows in the past
If I let you go
Can I shake this feeling (Oh oh oh)
Just like that
Tomorrow's one day that I'm never getting back
I can feel you though
Wake me from this dreaming

Not in episode

Flip the switch
You’re keeping me in the dark
My vision's clear, I see you left a mark
I’m the voice and I won't let you drag me down, down
If you go, I'm not going with you now

Don’t look back
Nothing left to see
Just leave the shadows in the past
If I let it go
Can I shake this feeling (Oh oh oh)
Just like that
Tomorrow's one day that I'm never getting back
I can feel you though
Wake me from this dreaming
Wake me from this dreaming
