James Gunn is a filmmaker who is the director of Maximum Velocitree 9 and works for Warner Bros. Studios Burbank. He appears in the episode "Ricker than Fiction".
Biography[]
Gunn first appears in the episode "Ricker than Fiction" where Rick and Morty travel to Warner Bros. Studios Burbank using the portal gun to berate him for his film, Maximum Velocitree 9, in his office. After Gunn tells Rick that he will never be pleased with the franchise, Rick then steals the screenplay for Maximum Velocitree 10 from Gunn to change and rewrite it within his Movie-lizer machine.
Gunn then meets Zack Snyder within the Warner Bros. Comissionary, who finds out more about Rick and travels to the Smith Residence in an attempt to steal the Movie-lizer. He then calls Jerry pretending to be Beth, using a higher-pitched voice to get him to leave the machine and take it for himself. However, he is not strong enough to do so and tries to take it away by wrapping it in chains and taking it with his car.
Jerry notices Gunn attempting to take the machine as the latter attempts to bribe the former by offering to make his book into a movie. Jerry rejects and punches Gunn in the face. At the end of Maximum Velocitree 10, James Gunn starts to cry over the new ending to the film as one of his tears falls onto the Movie-Lizer, freeing Rick and Morty from the simulation. Gunn steals the hard drive of the Movie-lizer containing the Maximum Velocitree 10 screenplay and sells it to Mr. Brothers, saying how it could "change everything". Mr. Brothers then orders his henchman to fire at him with a gun called "Sundae", shooting Gunn in the chest and killing him.
