Sausage Fella is the name given by Galactic Federation scientists to a mysterious species of which Mr. Poopybutthole is a member of.

Description

Appearance

Sausage Fellas are humanoid, with arms, legs, and faces (although Noob-Noob has one eye higher than the other, and Stealy has abnormally large arms). They wear similar clothes to Humans. However, they are smaller than humans, usually yellow, and their heads and bodies are melded together and elongated into a sausage-like shape.

Nature

This species was never cataloged in any Galactic Federation databases, but department scientists called them “sausage fellas”. Mr. Poopybutthole was thought to be the only sausage fella, but after he married another, the scientists were baffled, with one of them abandoning their job and moving to an ice planet afterwards. One gromflomite speculated that they might be a type of human.

In Rick and Morty Issue 6, Benjamin displayed potent telekinetic powers, deflecting bullets and destroying a rebel army. However, given that this was an in-universe commercial, it's possible that some or all of the events portrayed did not really take place. He was also capable of levitating himself and others in Rick and Morty Issue 58.

Mr. Poopybutthole and his species are notable as one of the few characters to explicitly break the fourth wall, apart from the Smith Family and other meta characters. Mr. Poopybutthole is even able to watch episodes of Rick and Morty (TV series), and once inserted himself into the Rick and Morty Theme Song.

Members of this species tend to live on Earth and operate as normal members of society, with no one ever questioning their strange nature.

Dan Harmon's explanation

Dan Harmon once proposed the theory that Mr. Poopybutthole’s species is similar to Memory Parasites but more benign and advanced, and wherever these parasites are, there will be Sausage Fellas along. Dan suggests that they have similar abilities of memory manipulation, being able to take advantage of holes in people’s memories and insert themselves into them. His theory also suggests that Sausage Fellas are comparable to “fourth dimensional phantoms”, that they aren’t bound by space and appear whenever there’s timeline malfunctions, misperception and breakdown. These extradimensional powers are what allow Mr. Poopybutthole to break the fourth wall and talk to the audience.

Lil’ Poopy Superstar

According to Lil’ Poopy Superstar, Sausage Fellas come from another planet that is mostly identical to Earth. In this planet, everyone is a fan of Mr. Poopybutthole, although it was later revealed that this was solely because of his hat. The comic also reveals that not all Sausage Fellas are shaped like a sausage, with plenty of them having a more round head (e.g. Cecelia and Bertie).

Rick's New Hat

According to Rick's New Hat, their name is “Worm” and they do not come from another planet, but are native to Earth. In the Prime Dimension, Worms lived underground for eons, waiting for the perfect opportunity to take over the surface. Some Worms such as Elliot Poop advocated for this, while others such as Mr. Poopybutthole Prime were peaceful and instead wanted to coexist with humans and Cronenbergs.

While they are normally humanoid, their true form is of a giant earthworm with several claws. They are capable of eating beings that are larger than them, and some were able to survive atomic bombs.

• Dan Harmon once claimed that Mr. Poopybutthole is an adult Mr. Meeseeks. This was likely a joke, as the two species are vastly different, and "The Poop in My Pants" shows that Sausage Fellas are not born from a Mr. Meeseeks Box.
