The Defiance is a rebellious group opposing The New Galactic Federation, and was apparently founded and led by Beth Smith. They have launched several attacks on the New Federation in their attempts to stop its growth and eventual takeover of the galaxy.

History

The Defiance was founded in response to the rise of the "New Galactic Federation": a new version of the old Galactic Federation, which collapsed due to the actions of Rick Sanchez. Beth Smith formed the group with other aliens that wished to oppose the rising federation, and her actions with the group eventually made her the most wanted creature in the galaxy.

Beth led a team of resistance fighters in an assault at a New Galactic Federation outpost. They triggered explosives inside of the main building before escaping to their ship and shooting down all Gromflomite soldiers chasing them. Beth was allowing a single federation soldier to survive in order to spread the word of the Defiance. The bug soldier was, however, unable to remember her name and thereby became useless, resulting in Beth killing him as well. The team returned to their base where their doctor fixed Beth's robotic arm and found an electronic device in her neck. This revelation prompted Beth to leave the Defiance to chase down her father.

In the episode "Rickfending Your Mort", the Defiance is seen again with Birdperson joining in the interim for a mission briefing as he introduces their target Dichotomous Daniel. However, Space Beth is heard farting but she lies out it to the other members and blames it on her chair.

In Valkyrick, Space Beth is dismissed for going on a mission without going to a meeting first.

• The Defiance is a reference to the Rebellion and the Resistance from the Star Wars franchise.
• The Defiance may or may not have been involved in the slave rebellion that Beth mentioned to Rick at Shoney's.
• Their symbol is a stylized equine head in a variety of motifs, such as that of a black horse or a rainbow-colored unicorn.
  • Since Beth may have founded the Defiance, their symbol may be a reference to Beth's previous career as a horse surgeon at St. Equis Hospital.
